Gratitude to Manal Al Sharif

Manal Al Sharif, a young Saudi woman is a source of encouragement to many people round the world. This young lady was caught by Saudi police while driving in Saudi Arabia (SA), where women drivers are prohibited under the banner of Islamic Law. Manal has announced for an open proposal to all the Saudi ladies to drive on June 17th within the territory of SA. This is a revolutionary step is voice against discriminatory laws in the name of Islam in SA.

Islam is broad-minded religion and interpreting it in wrong way has created many problems especially if we look at it from gender equality and human rights point of view. In SA, women are not only forbidden to drive but also they don’t have any national ID cards (as they are recognized via male members of their home e.g. husband or father etc). In short, women themselves have no individuality as citizen to country there. Where in Quran, it is written that women can’t drive and can’t sit in a bus or cannot have their own individuality?

Manal Al Sharif has proven to be the first drop of rain for the women of SA and I salute her for her daring nature.
